The major US equity indices closed mixed Monday after Moody’s Investors Service downgraded Greece’s government bond ratings to junk, offsetting earlier gains caused by upbeat industrial data from Europe. The ratings agency cut Greece’s sovereign-debt rating by four notches to Ba1, from A3, reflecting its view of the country’s medium-term credit fundamentals. The report on Europe showed that industrial production in the 16 countries that use the euro grew more than expected in April, up 0.8%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) closed 0.20% lower at 10190.89, the S&P500 (INX) closed 0.18% lower at 1089.63, and the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) closed 0.02% higher at 2243.96.
