Themajor US equity indices closed higher Wednesday following a vote in Germany to expand the European Bailout Fund. German lawmakers authorized Angela Merkel to negotiate an expansion of the lending capacity of the fund to roughly $1.4 trillion, more than double its current size of about $610 billion. Rajat K. Gupta surrendered to the FBI Wednesday on criminal charges of leaking inside information to Galleon Group hedge fund founder Raj Rajaratnam, who was sentenced to 11 years in prison this month.
